Last updated: 2026-06-14. Currently under review — usage is well below the plan allowance (see below).

Device

Primary phone: Google Pixel 9 Pro XL running Android 16. Specs current as of 2026-06-14.

Model

Google Pixel 9 Pro XL.

OS

Android 16.

Storage

256 GB local. Rarely near the limit — most data lives in Google One cloud storage (see Cloud Storage).

Plan

55GB plan with amaysim, billed every 28 days.

Cost maths

The 28-day cycle means 13.04 billing periods a year, not 12: The 28-day cycle costs ~$31/year more than a true monthly $30 plan would ($360), because it sneaks in an extra cycle each year.

Typical usage

Measured per billing cycle: That’s roughly 16% of the 55GB allowance. Even the peak cycle (16.58 GB) only hit 30%. The unused ~46GB per cycle rolls over, which is how ~2TB has banked up. Effective cost of data actually used: ~$3.41/GB.

Why this plan

Works from home most of the time, so mobile data is light. The 55GB plan is heavily oversized for actual usage — the banked 2TB makes that plain. Under review: a smaller, cheaper tier (or a true monthly plan) would cover real usage with room to spare and stop paying for headroom that never gets touched.

Gotchas

The 28-day billing cycle is the main thing to watch — it’s not monthly, so there are 13 charges a year, not 12. Worth factoring into any cost comparison against rivals that bill monthly. Banked data has no real value if usage stays this low; it’s a sign the plan is too big, not a perk being used.
